Troubleshooting

Symptom	Likely cause and fix
A directive shows nothing	It must be alone on its line, outside a code fence, and spelled with @ inside the comment. Check the syntax reference.
Slide directives are ignored	Slide-level directives must come before any panel content; metadata parsing stops at the first non-directive line.
Layout looks automatic	The layout string is invalid (unequal rows, non-rectangular letter areas, more than 26). Fix it, or use the editor's layout widget.
Image does not appear	The URL is wrong or blocked. For ?src= decks, relative paths resolve against the Markdown file; for local files use absolute URLs.
"Loading timed out" or an HTTP error	The file is not public, cannot be reached, or the site does not allow other pages to load it. Use the site's "raw" link.
"Larger than the 2 MiB limit"	Split the deck or move large content to external images.
Notes visible to the audience	They lack @note before the blockquote. A plain blockquote is visible content.
Video does not autoplay	Browsers require muted on for autoplay.
Remote cannot pair	Reload both the player and the phone page, open the Remote panel again, scan the new QR, and press Retry with a new name if offered.
Phone says "Pairing busy"	The player already has a phone; press Disconnect / switch phone on the player first.
Editor changes missing after reload	Only the last ~3 seconds before closing can be lost. Check the header status lines; Save to write a file.
Play tab does not update	The Live toggle in the player bar may be OFF; switch it ON.
Popup blocked on Play	Allow popups for the site and press Play again.

Checklist before presenting

1. Play the whole deck once, with reveals.
2. Check media, autoplay, and relative paths in the browser you will present with.
3. Save the document to a file; do not rely on the recovery copy.
4. Pair the phone remote and test Previous, Next, and the slide list.
5. Put key points in @note blocks, not secrets.
