The editor

The editor works on one current document and shows a live slide preview next to your text.

Opening and creating

Use the File menu (on narrow screens, the … menu):

Command What it does
Back to dashboard Returns to the start page.
New Starts a fresh sample deck.
Open file Opens a local .md file.
Open URL Imports a public Markdown URL as a new, unsaved document.
Recent Lists recently opened presentations.
Save / Save As… Writes a real Markdown file.

If a command would replace work that has not been saved to a file, the editor asks you to save or discard first.

Two editing modes

Switch with Editor → Widget / Markdown, or press Cmd/Ctrl+E.

  • Widget mode shows directives as compact, clickable widgets (layout pickers, color pickers, image and link editors) instead of raw comments. You still edit ordinary Markdown text directly.
  • Markdown mode shows the raw source, including the frontmatter.

Both modes edit the same text. Switch freely.

Inserting directives

  • Type @ at the start of a blank line, or inside <!--, to open the directive picker, then pick from the list.
  • Use the toolbar above the editor. It is grouped into MD (headings, lists, quote, code, rule), SLIDE, PANEL, and CONTENT commands. Each inserts the same source as the picker.

Live preview

The preview renders the slide with the same engine as the player. Choose its placement under Editor → Preview: Side by side, Stacked, or Hidden.

Saving: two different things

  1. Recovery copy. After you stop typing for about 3 seconds, the current document is stored in the browser. Reloading the page restores it. A progress ring in the header shows the pending write; a check mark means it is stored. The last few seconds of typing can be lost if the tab is killed.
  2. File. Save (Cmd/Ctrl+S) writes the real .md file. The first save of a new document asks for a location; later saves update the same file. In browsers without direct file writing, Save downloads a copy instead, and the header says so.

The two status lines in the header tell you the state of both. If saving fails, your text is kept and Export now downloads it.

Presentation settings

The Presentation settings (gear) dialog edits the title and typography scales.

  • Title is stored in the frontmatter and used in the recent list. Clearing it removes the key.
  • Typography sliders cover 0–400% in 5% steps.
  • Apply writes the frontmatter; Cancel changes nothing. Merely opening the dialog never inserts frontmatter.

Playing from the editor

The Play button opens the player in a new tab with the current document, including text you have not saved to a file. The player follows your edits while it is open; see Following the editor.
