The player

The player shows your deck as 16:9 slides that scale to the window.

Ways to start a presentation

  • From the dashboard: paste a link, choose a file, or pick a deck from Recent presentations.
  • From the editor: press Play. The deck opens in a new tab, including text you have not saved to a file yet.
  • From a shared link: add the address of a public Markdown file after play?src=, for example https://powermd.atom-forge.eu/play?src=<encoded file address>. Add #slide3 at the end to start on slide 3.

The address always contains the current slide (#slideN), so you can copy it to share a specific slide.

Controls

Action Keys
Next reveal step or slide →, ↓, Page Down, Space
Previous step or slide ←, ↑, Page Up, Backspace

Keys do nothing while a dialog is open or the deck is still loading.

The current slide is stored in the address as #slideN, so a refresh or a shared link returns to the same slide.

The floating bar

Moving the mouse or touching the screen shows the control bar at the bottom for about 2.5 seconds:

Button Function
Dashboard icon Back to the start page.
Phone icon Open the remote panel; a dot shows an active remote.
Live ON/OFF Shown when the deck was opened from the editor; pauses or resumes live updates.
Expand icon Toggle fullscreen.
‹ / › Previous and next.

Following the editor

When you press Play in the editor, the player shows the editor's current text, not the last saved file, and updates as you keep writing:

  • It keeps your slide and reveal position, clamped to the new length.
  • Unchanged slides are reused, so media does not restart when you edit elsewhere.
  • Live OFF freezes the player on its current content; Live ON catches up to your latest text.
  • If the connection to the editor is lost, the player says so; press Play again in the editor.

This makes a second window a convenient full-screen preview while you write.

Paste an ordinary page address and PowerMD converts it to the raw Markdown address when it knows the host:

Host Link form
GitHub …/blob/…
GitHub Gist gist page
GitLab …/-/blob/…, snippets
Bitbucket, Codeberg, Gitea, Forgejo …/src/…
Rentry page link
HackMD, HedgeDoc note link

The file must be public, and the site must allow other pages to load it (raw file links from the sites above do). Use a full http:// or https:// address without a username or password. A file can be up to 2 MiB, and loading gives up after 10 seconds.

Images and diagrams with relative paths load relative to the Markdown file's address.

Recent presentations

The dashboard remembers opened URLs and files in this browser. Each entry offers Play, Edit, and Remove. Removing only clears the list; it never touches your file. For local files the browser may ask for permission again, or you may need to reselect the file.

Presenting tips

  • Use fullscreen and the arrow keys; keep the mouse still so the bar stays hidden.
  • Open the deck on the presenting machine before the talk and check embedded media and autoplay.
  • Pair the phone remote beforehand; see Phone remote.
