The remote turns your phone into a presenter's controller. It shows your speaker notes and the title of the next slide, and it changes slides on the screen you are presenting from. There is nothing to install and no account or PIN is needed.
What you need
A presentation open in the player on your computer.
A phone with a camera that can scan QR codes.
An internet connection on both devices. They do not have to be on the same Wi-Fi.

C->>C: Open the Remote panel, show a QR code
P->>C: Scan the QR, show a three-word name
C->>C: Approve the name
C-->>P: Connected
Note over C,P: The phone switches to the controller
In the player, move the mouse to show the control bar and press the phone icon. Press Start remote.
Scan the QR code with your phone's camera. You can also press Copy link and send the link to your phone. Click the QR code to enlarge it.
The phone shows a three-word name, for example "calm teal falcon", and waits.
On the computer, find the same name under Awaiting approval and press Approve (or Reject).
The phone becomes the controller automatically; you do not need to scan again. The Remote panel on the computer closes by itself.
Using the controller
The phone screen shows:
The title of the current slide and two progress bars: one for slides, one for reveal steps.
Your speaker notes for the current slide.
The title of the next slide.
Previous and Next buttons. They work like the keyboard: each press advances one reveal step first, then moves to the next slide.
Slides, a list for jumping straight to any slide.
Open document (the folder icon), which loads a Markdown link on the computer's player.
Links you open this way are remembered on the phone in a Recent URLs list (up to 20). Use the trash icon or Clear history to remove them. A file from your computer cannot be opened from the remote.
If something stalls
The phone waits for the player to confirm each command. If nothing comes back after about 15 seconds, it offers Sync / recover, which refreshes the state without sending the command again. Stop waiting gives up waiting but does not undo the command, so look at the player before you continue.
If the phone loses its connection, the notes it shows may be out of date and the buttons are disabled. Coming back to the page reconnects it.
Disconnecting and switching phones
Disconnect / switch phone disconnects the current phone and shows a new QR code for the next one.
Stop remote ends the remote completely.
Reloading the phone page keeps the connection. Reloading the player on the computer ends it; pair again.
Only one phone can control a player at a time. Disconnect the first phone before approving another.
Privacy
Only the phone you approved can control your player. Messages travel through a public relay service and are not encrypted, so the relay could in principle read your speaker notes and the links you open.
Pair in a place you trust, and approve only the three-word name that appears on your own phone.
